Welcome to the Valley Center-Pauma Unified School District!
It is both an honor and a privilege to serve as your Superintendent and to welcome you to a district I am incredibly proud to be part of. For the past 18 years, this has been my professional home, where I have had the opportunity to serve as a teacher, principal, and Assistant Superintendent. Throughout that time, I have learned from the dedicated educators, staff, students, and families who make this community so special. It is through these shared experiences that I have come to understand what it truly means to serve in public education and to support a community that cares so deeply about its schools.
One of the greatest strengths of our district is our people. Our staff creates meaningful connections with students and families each day, welcoming them, supporting them, and celebrating their successes. Their care and dedication are the foundation of a school community where students feel seen, valued, and motivated to learn. This culture of connection and commitment is something we deeply value and will continue to prioritize in all that we do.
We have much to celebrate across our district, and I am proud of the strong foundation already in place. At the same time, we remain focused on important challenges, including enrollment, attendance, student outcomes, and maintaining our facilities. I am committed to building on our successes while continuing to expand opportunities for students through strong programs, thoughtful implementation of curriculum, and meaningful pathways that prepare them for the future.
We believe our schools are strongest when we work together. We truly value the partnership we share with our families and caregivers, and we are grateful for the trust you place in us each day. I encourage you to stay connected, whether through conversations with teachers, participation in school events, or simply being involved in your child’s learning journey. Together, we can continue to create supportive, engaging environments where every student thrives. Your involvement and commitment make a meaningful difference, and we are so glad you are part of our Valley Center-Pauma community.
Respectfully,
Mark Hailwood
Superintendent
Valley Center-Pauma Unified School District
Until the last moment, until the last child, we serve, we lead, we grow.
